Glass & glazing information

Understand the difference between a double-glazed unit and a Low-E coating before discussing your project specification.

About double glazing & low-e glass
Double glazing uses two panes of glass separated by a sealed cavity. Low-E is a low-emissivity coating used in some glass products to change how heat is transferred through the glazing.
They are different features and may be used together in a specified glass unit. Different constructions have different performance characteristics, so the complete window matters: glass, frame and the chosen configuration.
If your project has an energy report or a required glazing schedule, include it with your enquiry. We will discuss what is available for the proposed system and confirm the agreed product details. This guide does not promise a particular energy rating or result for every window.
Details to consider
- The requirements in your plans or energy assessment
- Orientation, daylight and the appearance you want
- The full window system rather than glass in isolation
- The glass construction and documented performance required
